Awarding the EU-2015 Design Prize

On November 23th 2015 in Milan Cinzia Dinardo and Isabella Steffan awarded the winners of the Prize "Eu-Design 2015" at the conference on current ergonomics issues and the relationship between objects and people, promoted by Eu-Design, SIE, Ergonomist. it and Studio Steffan and with the patronage of the Lombardy region, SIE, the College of engineers and Architects of Milan and ADI.

For the product category, the prize was awarded to TARTA ORIGINAL, designed and produced by TARTA DESIGN; it is a modular backrest designed to adapt and improve the posture of each of us with a mix of design and materials technology, giving the best of ergonomics.

For the digital interface category, the prize was awarded to the DIGITAL INTERFACE for the professional espresso coffee machine - CLASSE 11 USB XCELSIUS, designed by UMANIA Srl and produced by RANCILIO GROUP Spa; this interface makes control easy due to characteristics similar to those of the latest generation smartphone interfaces; in addition to a simple and immediate navigation, it is possible to use audio and video files.

In addition, a Special Mention was also given to the concept Young LEAD-Bus, designed by Federico Longo; this is an innovative means of urban transport thought to promote mobility and to reduce the management costs which are the critical point for most of the vehicles in use today.

Cinzia Dinardo

A Degree in Industrial Design at the Politecnico di Milano, Certified Ergonomist Eur.Erg. Cinzia works in the field of user experience design and is the founder of the first laboratory of ergonomics and usability in Puglia, Ergonomo.it. She has been for several years a researcher in the field of ergonomics at CETMA, the Research Centre of Brindisi. She has worked as a usability expert in Gambro-Baxter, a leading manufacturer of dialysis machines, and in several areas such as product design, medical design, Interaction and visual design. She has been for four years Coordinator for the Delegation Apulia Basilicata of ADI (Association for Industrial Design) for the ADI Design Index. E’ stata presidente della sezione SIE Lombardia-Liguria dal 2012 al 2015.

Silvia Gilotta

Psychologist, Ph.D. in Applied Psychology and Ergonomics, Certified Ergonomist Eur.Erg. Silvia has been working in the field for more than 10 years. Her skills range from research and development on issues such as mental workload and optimization of industrial processes, to the optimization of physical and graphic HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces), to eye movements on websites and mobile devices, and even to the study of usage habits and human relations mediated by technology. Svolge attività da free lance per aziende italiane e straniere, per LudoTIC è Project Manager per le attività in Italia. E' Segretaria della Presidenza della SIE Piemonte ed è membro del Comitato Scientifico del WUD dal 2014.

Isabella Tiziana Steffan

She holds a Degree in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano and has been a member of the Association of P.C.C. Architects of the city of Milan since 1982. A Certified European Ergonomist since 2001, Isabella actively works in the field of accessible design, Design for All and Ergonomics both for private and public customers. She has been a member of the Permanent Observatory of Design ADI for 15 years and a consultant of the Institute for Blind People of Milan on the evaluation of accessibility of websites. She performs teaching activities for several Institutes, among which Politecnico di Milano, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano and Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca. She is national secretary of SIE, member of IEA2018 Committee, chair of the new IEA Technical Committee Ergonomics and Design for All, and a founding member of the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT).

Jan-Christoph Zoels

Jan-Christoph Zoels is a founding partner of Experientia, where he is in charge of user experience design. Of German origin, he has lived for many years in the US, where he has taught at RISD, has worked as Director of Information Architecture at Sapient and as senior designer at Sony. A senior associate professor at Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, he led the ‘Applied Dreams’ initiative — collaborative innovation workshops with industry leaders such as Nokia, Alcatel, Sony, Hitachi, Mattel, Orange, Fiat and Telecom Italia. He has taught at Rhode Island School of Design, the Jan Van Eyck Academy (Maastricht, Netherlands), at Samsung’s Innovative Design Laboratory (Seoul, Korea) and Domus Academy, Milan. Jan-Christoph actively supports the strategic integration between user experience modeling, design, prototyping and iterative testing in order to improve the desirability of products, environments and services. Among his customers: ASUS, BenQ, CVS Pharmacy, Intel, Intesa Sanpaolo Bank, Samsung, Sony, SITRA, Swisscom, Toncelli kitchens and Unicredit bank. In 2011 Experientia won the national award for innovation in the design of services, as well as the Holcim Award for the sustainable design and construction of low carbon buildings, in the former port area of Helsinki (www.low2no.org). In these projects Experientia has shown excellent results in initiatives aimed at behavioral change, in stakeholder engagement, through processes of participatory design and sustainable management solutions.

On November 13th 2014, during the World Usability Day 2014, inside the Sala Agorà of the Incubatore Imprese Innovative of the Politecnico di Torino – there was a corner dedicated to the Eu-Design 2015 Award.
