The objective of the Eu-Design Award is to raise awareness in companies and designers on the issues related to applied ergonomics. A brainchild of Isabella Tiziana Steffan and Cinzia Dinardo, the award is supported by SIE, the Italian Society of Ergonomics Section Lombardy-Liguria.

Ergonomics or human factors is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. SIE, a non-profit association, aims to promote the development of ergonomics and the dissemination and systematization of knowledge and experiences related to the ergonomic approach, in close relationship with social realities. It also aims to promote the proper development of professional aspects and be a point of reference for the regulatory bodies of various professions (Source: SIE,

Today there is a multitude of design awards, but among them ergonomics has always had a marginal role, although the most important aspect that makes an artifact a good product is given precisely by how the object interacts with the final user. Although growing, they are still few companies that have understood the importance of producing artifacts, perceived as appropriate by those who use them in terms of physical and cognitive interaction.

Eu-Design is a recognition that wants to be an opportunity to:

  1. explain and boost the role of ergonomics;
  2. promote the role of ergonomics in the design, implementation and evaluation of products, services and digital artifacts for living and working environments;
  3. promote active collaboration between companies and ergonomists.
